Australia-Middle East Journalism Exchange (AMEJE) is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to improve cross-cultural understanding by fostering better informed journalism.
Our mission is to be both an enabler of positive change in Australian and Middle Eastern journalism, and an indispensable resource for journalists wishing to represent the other region accurately and with nuance.
Managing director Scott Bridges is a PhD candidate at the University of Canberra, researching Al Jazeera’s expansion around the world, and teaches communications and journalism at that institution. He is the author of 18 Days: Al Jazeera English and the Egyptian Revolution (Editia, 2013). Scott has lived, worked and travelled extensively in the Middle East.
Director Damian Doyle holds a masters degree in Middle Eastern studies and is researching a PhD at the Australian National University about political legitimacy and violent non-state actors in the Iraq insurgency. He is qualified in project management and has experience managing large budgets and delivering projects overseas in cross-cultural environments.
